Room to Read

“World Change Starts with Educated Children.”

In 1999, I met John Wood through mutual friends at the Thirsty Bear (brew pub) in San Francisco. We had both just returned from Nepal and could not stop talking about our experiences there. I went on and on about mountains and mountain men and John talked about how he and his father wanted to help children in countries like Nepal by providing books and building schools to improve their education (I felt really small).

So John started an organization, Books for Nepal, now called Room to Read.

Since then, Room to Read has built schools in Nepal, Cambodia, India, Laos, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, South Africa, Zambia and Bangladesh, and John published his autobiography, Leaving Microsoft to Change the World. All proceeds from the book go to Room to Read.

But as John says, there are still tons of millions of kids who need access to a better education. There is much to be done.
